Eminem

If your supervisor is getting you down, maybe you should ask yourself: “just how super does this supervisor think he/she is?” Are they really nothing more than a big visor that is casting a shadow on you and your department?

The bagpipe guild

I was biking down the hill in Prospect Park the other day and heard what sounded like bagpipes. I scanned the woods as they scrolled by and sure enough: bagpipes. Not on a walking path or near a bench - just some large man in a kilt in the middle of some bushes playing a bagpipe.

This led me first, to laugh. Then I got to wondering about bagpipes. Are there really (recognizable) bagpipe songs? Is there such thing as bad bagpipe players? I think I saw a bad bagpipe player in a movie once, but never in real life. Maybe you learn the bagpipes in solitude out in the mountains and are allowed back only when you master them, now officially a man.

Public PA

This is a public service announcement about cleaning supplies: We, as a community are all switching to peppermint scented products – everything from toothpaste to windex to, yes, "Mentha X piperita pine-sol" floor cleaner. This way all of our rivers will smell minty fresh and that will be quite nice for a change.

I have known myself forever

Can you quote yourself about something you are just now saying for the first time?

Things I've learned from dying

I’m having my reoccuring dream again where I’m in a plane and it runs into a mechanical problem on takeoff and starts to tumble towards the earth, but this time I am an old man and I am ready for death. There is a younger woman next to me and I reach out to hold her hand and comfort her. Instead of holding my hand she clamps down on it – a real death grip, and I feel her anxiety. Being empathetic I start to feel anxious all over again. Some things never change.
