Attempts at an organized home

You know those cool bohemian friends you've got who make really good use of found objects and build everything themselves? I think one of the coolest things they do is take 4 or 5 fruit crates and turn them into modular bookshelves. They're great - you can cluster by category, move the paperbacks to the top shelf on a whim, and they cost next to nothing.

The first thing to ask yourself (or the person next to you) is "Where might I find a crate to create a modular bookshelf out of?"

If you answered yourself by saying: "Hey, I'll try Crate & Barrel (.com)" you'd be wrong.

If the person next to you suggested: "Hey, you should try Crate & Barrel (.com)" they, too, would be wrong.

Just so you know, a search for "Crate" does not pull up anything closely resembling a Crate. Just pancake spatulas, cocktail coasters, and hibachi grills to name a few items.

Ironically, a search for "Barrel" returns a much better match than the search for Crate -- a Nile Dresser which at $1699 is VERY unbohemian, but may not be the worst idea in the world for those financially endowed...it would hold a lot of books and keep them dust free, but it would make browsing a bit more of a challenge...
